If you’re like me, you spend a lot of time researching your remodeling projects, and what products you’re going to use in them. You’ve probably done a lot of reading about ceiling lighting and how to use them with your ceiling tiles – and like me – you’ve probably given up in disgust!
When I did my research, I quickly came to the conclusion that most of the lights that I looked at would do the job, so I narrowed down my criteria. In the end, I decided that my main decision point was energy efficiency. With that as my main criteria, there was only one choice – LED lighting was the way to go.
The lights you choose are going to depend on what you want to use them for. I wanted to do different things in different rooms, so I needed to use:
In my search for my perfect ceiling lighting, after researching and reading a lot of customer reviews, I narrowed it down to the 3 products that I felt offered the best mix of function, quality and price:
If you want to make the best decision for your own projects, then you must look at both the pros and the cons of each product certain product. There’s nothing out there 100% perfect, but some the best LED ceiling lighting can get pretty close.
I’ve put together a comparison of the technical specifications of the 3 lights I chose, as well as their Amazon rating and their price:

Here’s my quick review of each of the ceiling lighting that I chose.
Obviously, each of these products fulfill very different purposes. However these spotlights were ideal for what I wanted. I was replacing some old incandescent spots, and so I was able to re-use the housings that these were already in. If you are installing these new, you will also need the housings for lamps, such as the Cree RC6-12W Housing.
These were really easy to install! It took me just a couple of minutes per lamp to swap out the old one and replace with the new units. Once they were in, I was really happy with them.
The quality of the light they produce is really good. It comes on instantly (there’s no waiting for it to warm up) and it’s a nice soft white, which is good in the family room, and is just as bright as the old lamps. They dim really nicely as well, with no changes to the wiring required.
You can tell by the standing underneath it that it’s a lot more efficient – there’s virtually no heat produced, so I believe that efficiency claims.
I’m looking forward to using these for the 35,000 hours claimed lifetime – and at a low lower cost than the old lamps.
I bought this light for a different purpose. For this one, I wanted a radiant light in my hallway to replace an old chandelier type lamp. I wasn’t worried about dimming, I just wanted a good, efficient bright light that covered the whole room.
This one did the job. I had to expand the hold in the drywall from the old lamp (no drop ceiling tiles in my hallway unfortunately), but then I was able to hook up the driver and quickly clip the lamp in place.
There’s no much to else to say about this really – simple to install and does the job well – I love it!
Finally, in my basement project, I had been looking for a lighting panel for some time. I’d resigned myself to using fluorescent tubes before I saw this baby!
As it’s quite a large space, I bought two of these to fit into my drop ceiling. As I was using 24 inch tiles, it was really easy for me to slot it into the space and hook up to the lighting circuit.
I love the fact it’s using quality Samsung LEDs, and that I can dim it. It makes it really easy to change the mood, or lower the lights for watching movies (without kicking things when I go get another beer!).
While I felt that I was taking a risk on buying this light when it had no Amazon reviews – I’m really glad I did!
